My Local Utah
I come from a long line of small business owners in my family.
My grandfather owned a grain mill, and my other grandparents owned the heating and propane company in a tiny town. When I was in high school, my parents started a small mom & pop old fashioned restaurant sacrificing all of their life savings to start it. I had my first job at the age of 14; it’s all we knew; there was no other option. We always worked right along with attending school.
Fast Forward twenty-five-plus years; as a wife, mom of three, and small storefront business owner now for over 21 years, it is our passion, or maybe it’s in our blood.
I’ve taught my children growing up how important it is to shop local, buy local. My kids find the small family-owned grocer, the local baker, the local hardware store, or the sandwich shop.
My goal and hope are this continues from generation to generation. My children are now young adults two attend Weber State University, and my youngest is at Davis High. I smile when they chose the local home décor or flower shop and bypass the big box store. They skip the self-check-out line at the grocery store because they know it’s essential that ” the First-time job” is to the younger age generation.
The jobs which teach customer service at a young age are even more critical in this day and age as technology takes entry-level employment and basic customer service skills.
I believe in our community, our local businesses, giving back, and bringing that together for our future.
